Many of the still image algorithms are valid also for video processing. Color balancing, focus, noise and exposure among others are definitely important features in the video streams. However, several new algorithms have to be used when videos are processed. Above all, encoding and decoding affects the final quality of the video. Several different artifacts and performance issues can be isolated to the specific codec implementation.

Currently, Sofica concentrates on the audio-video synchronization measurements of video quality. The measurement uses the original input and data processed by a specific video codec. According to signature based analysis the differences between streams can be calculated and the delay of each frame is analyzed. Actually, the result of these measurement algorithms reveals more than just audio-video synchronization. It also indicates, how the timing of the audio and video parts are changed separately. This evaluation method can show artifacts which can not be detected from the basic audio-video synchronization results.
